The Colville Horizon Board will be sponsoring INVENTION, INNOVATION, and MARKETABLE IDEA contest. Scholarships will be awarded to the WSU Innovation Assessment Center ($795 value). Submissions for the contest must be post marked by June 28th and mailed to WSU Extension more details will be revealed at the "KICKOFF" (call for info packet)
The second track will show how to creat a VIRTUAL ASSISTANT business is a good fit for rural communities.
If you have a great idea or want to learn how to start a business...This is your chance!

OUR LAST COMPUTER CLASS

On May 10,2008 at the Community College Rick Mudd gave our final computer class. This class was exciting we learned so many ideas and techniques to help us use our computers to our fullest. Rick made this class easy for everyone you didn't have to be a rocket scientist to understand. Our last task was to make a movie everyone had a blast. All the community members had stated their biggest wish was more TIME the class just wasn't long enough. To Rick Mudd your students would like to say a job well done and Thank you.

I would like to add that offering these computer classes to our communities can only strengthen our abilities. Learning is continuing education, everyone should continue to learn a new task, occupation or even a hobby and our communities will grow from this as well.

LAKE ROOSEVELT COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER

The women's health fair April 30Th was very successful. The Hunters Horizon Board would like to thank everyone from the Lake Roosevelt Health Center for all their hard work preparing for the fair. Dr. Rob Fuller was present to do consultations and gave us a what's up with women's heart health and the simptoms we should be watching for. Thank you all for trying to make our community safe and healthy. A big thanks to the Presbyterian Church for letting us use their building for this event.

BLOGGING AND WEB COMPUTER CLASS

Rick Mudd was great it was an exciting class. The time few by and everyone wished we had just a little more time.

GRANT WRITING

On April 18th and 19th Christine Stanton and Patricia Lamm from the Hunters Horizon Board attended this two day seminar. It was amazing there were over 100 community members from Stevens and Ferry Counties. Susan Howlett gave a wealth of information to all who attended. Everyone of our communities will benifit from the knowledge Susan gave us. I for one would like to Thank Susan Howlett, the Horizon Group, W.S.U. and especially the Northwest Area Foundation for all they done for our community.

GRANT WRITING

On April 4th and 5th five members from the Hunter's Horizon Board attended these classes. Susan Howlett was a wonderful teacher. We recommend everyone to go to this grant writing class it was very informational. The next class will be held April 18th and 19th in Colville.

OUR FIRST COMPUTER WORKSHOP: THE BASIC'S

March 22,2008 BASIC COMPUTER everyone had a great time. Rick Mudd is a fantastic teacher he makes sure everyone is comfortable with what he was teaching. We left that day a much more informed. The students rated this class: TWO THUMBS UP!

HEALTH CARD TRAINING: FOOD HANDLERS PERMIT

Diane Jolley and Alice Robison from Tri County Environmental health came to Columbia High School in Hunters Wa. where they proceeded in testing 62 people from our community for the food handlers permit. Over half of the sixty-two were students from the Columbia High School. Alice said this was the largest class ever tested at one time for the food handler permit. Everyone passed it was a hugh success we now have 62 people in our community with food handlers permits.

RED CROSS BABYSITTING TRAINING

HUNTER'S HORIZON PROJECT TEAMED UP WITH RED CROSS TO OFFER THE KIDS IN OUR COMMUNITY A RED CROSS BABYSITTING CERTIFICATION CLASS. THIS CLASS TRAINS KIDS OF AGES 11 TO 15 TO BE CERTIFIED AND TRAINED IN WHAT TO DO WHEN BABYSITTING. WE HAD 10 GIRLS PARTICIPATE. WE HAD TWO INSTRUCTORS (CHRISTIE & MARGARET) FROM RED CROSS OUT OF SPOKANE. THE GIRLS LEARNED HOW TO CHANGE AND HOLD BABIES TO KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE AND WHAT TO DO IF AN EMERGENCY OCCURS. EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME, AND IT'S NICE TO KNOW WE HAVE 10 CERTIFIED GIRLS IN OUR AREA TO WATCH OVER OUR CHILDREN. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED.

Hunters Horizon Board

We would like to say welcome to the new "Hunters Horizon Board" The board has been established in our last phase of our project. It's quite a good feeling knowing we are at this phase in the project, and say "Thanks" to all the people who worked together to get here. Our first official board meeting will be Thursday January 24, 2008 at 5:00p.m. at The Oddfellows Lodge.
